Transcription Automatically transcribe video to text Part 1
In this article we will be looking at transcribing a video. Be it any video formats such as MP4, you will be able to convert it into the text format pretty easily and fairly just by using YouTube and through your email ID.
Now all you need to do is, go to www.youtube.com and upload the video you want to transcribe. Here you will get an option called “Subtitle”, based on the length of the video, YouTube will have your video transcribed automatically. This will allow you to download the transcribed content in .srt format. You will have to make note of one point here, the better the audio quality of the video, the better will be converted transcription accuracy. But your manual effort is anyhow required in any case.
Let us now look at the step by step procedure of transcribing video to text.
First, log in to your YouTube account and click on the Creator Studio option available, when you click on your username icon in the top right corner of your YouTube page.
As you go to the Creator Studio page, you will get an option called Upload video
Select the video you want to transcribe and upload it.
Also ensure to choose the private option for the video in case you don’t want the video to go public.
Click the Video Manager option available after the uploading of the video is done.
You will notice that your video has been uploaded. Click the Edit option
Then click the Subtitle option from the dropdown list
A pop up window will appear, here you will have to select your required language and press the Set Language button.
Once you do that, you will also get an option on the right side of the page, “Add new subtitles or CC”
Select the English option or any other language that you require
Wait for some time for YouTube to process the video and understand the language so it converts the audio to text format. The longer the length of the video you have uploaded, the more time will YouTube take to convert it into text format.
Once the transcription is done by YouTube, you will notice there is a radio button named English (automatic). This denotes that the transcription has been completed.
When you click on the radio button, you will be taken to the subtitle page.
Clicking on the Actions button will reveal the dropdown list with three format options which you can download.
Selecting the format option will automatically download the file
The file will be downloaded in the notepad and can be opened via same.
Here you will be able to easily differentiate the text along with its time and frame of speech. You can copy this to the word file and submit it to the clients.
I would like to give a bonus tip to my readers. If you copy the downloaded .srt file in the same folder as the video that was uploaded on YouTube, you can have subtitles automatically uploaded in the video as well without much effort. But make sure you rename the file same as the video.
